Basement Redo: REVEAL!
Guys, our basement studio space is finally complete!!
In our previous blog post, Basement Redo: Part 1 , we showed you everything we did during the slow months of quarantine in 2020. We needed to create a space that was super organized for our inventory manager, Char, to get through our wedding weeks as well as make it seamless for our freelance designers to come in and feel comfortable with labeled and easily accessible supplies! Not only did we want the space to be organized, but we really wanted the curated aesthetic of our upstairs to make its way to the downstairs. Being surrounded by a beautiful, clean and organized space really helps to keep our minds clear so the creativity can flow :)
See what we did with all the “before” and “after” shots below!
Our flower cooler door is the first thing you see when you start the walk down the basement stairs.
We’ve always been obsessed with the old dutch door that leads into our flower cooler but we wanted to give it a bit of a makeover with fresh paint, new door knob and the custom lettering by Oh Joyful Day letting everyone know what’s inside!

This corner of the studio became a landing spot for purses, aprons, cleaning supplies, and tools inside a non-functional closet door. We completely cleared it out and only put back what we want we to store in the closet. We got rid of the wonky door and hung these Anthropologie curtains for easier access and a pop of color!

Ahhh the sink.
When we look back now we wonder how we functioned for years with such a tiny shallow sink to fill up our big buckets and clean our huge collection of glassware.
Since the glow up, we have been loving the extra space and have our beautiful subway tile to look at. The tiles make for a pretty nice photo backdrop for our blooms too!

Eeeek this is where the “before” pics get pretty cringey!!!
Our “load out” area was essentially a dump zone. The potential was there for an organized wall, but initiating any sort of system felt so overwhelming while we were heavy into the cycle of our weddings week after week.
Now, instead of a cluttered shelf, Char has an organized desk and landing spot for her things right next to the load out shelves we’ve literally been dreaming about since we moved in!!
These shelves have completely changed the flow of our process during the morning of wedding days. When we have multiple events in one weekend, it is so clear and easy for our crew to see which items go to which wedding when it’s time to pack up the van.
We’re sooo happy with how these turned out! And when we don’t have a wedding, the shelves are clear and clean and we’re not bogged down by random clutter everywhere!

Our inventory had gotten so out of control it took over every nook and cranny downstairs! Space is limited in our quaint cottage and a lot of these items hadn’t been used for several wedding seasons. We kept asking ourselves, “is this piece paying its ‘rent’ here”, aka do we use it enough to justify the space it is taking up?
We were able to sell off things we don’t use often enough in order for us to be really intentional about what rental items we’re providing our new clients.
Now all of the inventory lives in the back closet and everything is sorted and labeled—it’s a dream!!

We’re sooo excited about is the amount of workspace we created by re-organizing and purging. It’s been so easy to have freelance designers jump right in with us during the busy season.
Also, we cannot WAIT to host our floral workshops down here next year in 2022 and immerse our attendees in the true studio experience!
