Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does the event crew do?
A: The main role of our event crew members is to assist our team in setting up and tearing down the wedding flowers. This entails loading and unloading uhaul trucks, transporting carts of flowers and hardwoods in and out of the venue, organizing flower buckets, placing centerpieces and candlelight on tables, helping our freelance designers with large scale installations, and light floral design. At the end of the wedding event crew members return to the venue to assist the teardown lead in taking down all floral pieces, packing candles and loading the uhaul truck. More in-depth details are given at our yearly training meeting before the wedding season begins!
Q: I’ve never worked with flowers before but I’d love try. Can I still apply?
A: Yes! We’d welcome you to apply for our event crew position! If you are an energetic, detail-oriented person with an eye for style and a great attitude—you will fit right in with our team. We have an extensive training meeting at the beginning of each season and everything else will be learned on the job!
Q: How long is a typical setup/teardown?
A: Since every wedding is different, every schedule is a different! Generally speaking, the setups usually take place between 10am-4pm on the wedding day. Sometimes crew members will meet earlier in the morning to assist at the cottage before heading to setup at the venue. Other times crew members will stay longer, after the setup is over, to move floral pieces from the ceremony to the reception. Teardown generally lasts 1-3 hours and can’t be started until the wedding ends, which is typically somewhere between 10pm and 12midnight.
Q: I design for other florists, can I still apply for the freelance designer position?
A: Yes! We are seeking reliable and experienced designers. Please send us your portfolio & resume to hello@sapphireandlacedesign.com to see if we’re a good fit!
